As you (might) know, my posts tend to be a bit delayed on here. I usually can’t make a recipe and have time to write about it immediately, so that’s how it goes. I actually am writing about this party only a couple days after it happened, but just posting it about 2 months after the fact. The Fudgelet normally parties at home for his birthday. This year, since it was his last birthday as an only child, I decided to go somewhere. Since he loves blueberries, we were going to do a two part one…pick blueberries, then go to a park and play/eat. Well, as you see, I said “we were.” We had a rainier and cooler spring this year which meant berries weren’t ready until near the end of July (normally they are ready around July 4). And then the park part had to get cancelled, too, since it ended up raining that morning for a bit (the first rain of the entire month, and then some). Siiiiiiigh. So, back to hosting it at home! He was a little disappointed at first, but then recovered when he knew that everyone was still coming here. He cared more about seeing his friends than the park.
Okay okay, I don’t have the most Halloween-ish post to offer you, even with it being in a few days. I promise to have pictures/stories of the Fudgelet’s second Halloween sometime soon, but that will be after the holiday, obviously. In the meantime, I did offer a craft for this time of year, and this is my attempt to make this recipe appropriate for Halloween, too. You could totally run with it and decorate the plate or something…I leave that to you Master Holiday Visionaries. The best I have is Devil-ed Eggs…because, you know, a devil is scary?? Or you know, I might have just made this because the Fudgelet loved the deviled eggs at his party, and I decided to take that same idea. (cough cough)
There are many posts coming about the Fudgelet’s birthday parties. Yeah, Mr. Party Animal has had 3 parties all for himself. The first was a family/July 4 party back in Maryland, so it was not super Fudgelet-centric. But, then K and I did a family party for the three of us. I made cake, and not just any cake. He got a Momofuku Milk Bar cake. But, that’s nothing compared to the party we threw for our friends to celebrate with us. Over the few years of living here, my friends are basically K’s friends. He’s been here over a decade and all, so I took on his group with him, and love them, too. After getting pregnant, I wanted to meet some other moms/future moms. I ended up getting my own group of friends. Well, even though some people were unable to make it to the party, we still had 2 dozen people! Eek! It meant that I needed to make large amounts of foods to ensure everyone would be satisfied. Not a big deal, since I had been brainstorming food ideas for a while.
