Are you in the mood for a fast dish that can have everything you need all together? Starch, vegetable, protein…and it is one tasty package? It maybe isn’t the healthiest, but you could always scale back the butter and cheese a bit if you wanted. Or add extra pasta/broccoli to soak it up. We were all fans of this creamy dish which is very easy to make.
For awhile, the Fudgelet wasn’t a big fan of mac and cheese. He liked cheese, but only cold/room temperature. Not hot. He liked pasta, but mostly with tomato sauce. Before I put all of this together, I tried making mac and cheese for him only to realize he wasn’t liking it.
Recently I’ve decided to branch out into new pasta shapes. First was what you see today. Soon I will be sharing another shape I had fun making. This pasta is one that would be fun to try with kids. The dough is safe (just flour and water), and I can tell you that K had a lot of fun making the bowls. He offered to help and then tried to take over because he has enjoying it so much. I could see kids enjoying it, too.
Does the title seem generic? It feels kind of boring, but I couldn’t think of a more appropriate name for this dish. I like that you can customize it with vegetables you have on hand, as well as the meat. If you want, you could use turkey or chicken sausage, and I promise that it will still taste great. This is another one of those “end of summer” dishes with the tomatoes, but you could substitute canned tomatoes or leave them out and use a different addition during the winter months. The amounts can be altered as well, depending on what you like. I went a little light on the sausage because I wanted to use up what I had, but then I apparently had a bunch of vegetables and pasta to use.
