Who is “Fudging Ahead”?
When I moved out to the Seattle area in 2011, I had some idea of what to expect. After all, I had been visiting for my spring and summer breaks. Many things have changed, both since I moved here and since I started this blog. Cooking is both fun and a chore. Some days I have no idea what to make or serve until the last minute. Other times I am planning a meal a week in advance.
Stay-at-home-mom is a newish title for me. I still see myself as a (math) teacher, even if I’m not doing it formally at this point. On the internet I usually go by Aly or Alyssa. “Fudging Ahead” was the title I coined because I started with a simple fudge recipe, and soon became known as a cook/baker/food-lover. You have to eat, so why not enjoy it?
What is your blog about?
My mom always loved to cook and part of the reason I wanted to start this blog was thinking of her. She had tons of recipes that were big favorites with my family, but I don’t know most of them. Some are hidden within her many folders and binders of recipes (at least I get that habit honestly) and some were in her head. She also was the kind to make small changes that made big differences. I want to be able to document what I’ve made and what did/didn’t work for myself, my family, and anyone else willing to see it.
Some of my recipes are from me or my family, and some are from cookbooks and blogs. I will give credit where it’s due, so please go check out those folks as well. My husband’s family is Chinese so I will also be “stealing” recipes from them, too. His mom is good at describing what she does, and I just have to take notes.
Learning to cook for two has turned into learning to cook for a family of four. As our family grows, you will see more posts about our adventures in the kitchen and elsewhere. I hope to share my experiences as a way of remembering these fun challenges, and to connect with others.
You can expect posts 2-3 times a week. Some will have recipes, and some will document my life. Follow me through my food discoveries!
P.S. You can also find me on Facebook and Twitter, or email me at fudgingahead (at) gmail dot com!

Nice blog, Alyssa. I love that you take after Jan in the cooking department! She was a great cook and now it seems that you are, too. The proverbial apple didn’t fall far from the tree!
Thanks 🙂 She is definitely an inspiration!
