Shanghai Green Onion Bing

I first heard of bread like this from a fitness person online. Her mom would make many of them each day, and they would eat them almost like pita bread with toppings/spreads. It sounded interesting, but I didn’t get around to it. Then I saw this recipe and realized it was the same idea but made more savory. I love scallion pancakes in theory, but they often are too greasy for my liking. This bread ends up being a cross between a scallion pancake and naan (in my family’s opinion).

Giant Snickerdoodle Cookie

This could have been described as a partial fail, but it was a way to bake with the Chiplet. Possibly some decisions I made to make baking with him easier led to the not perfect result, but it still tasted good. Another reason the cookie might have been a bit different is because I substituted Smart Balance for the butter to make it dairy free.

Smitten Kitchen’s Latkes

I know, I am coming in months late here, but really…is there ever a bad time to eat what is essentially hash browns? Nope. I am here for them. It was easier doing this recipe than I remember them being from other recipes. The latkes turned out crispy and not soggy with oil.

Pineapple Buns (first and second attempts)

Today I am not sharing a recipe just because I am trying to find my best version. When K and I were dating and first started to go to NYC to visit some of his family, I started to learn that pineapple buns are one of the best breads. They have a nice fluffy texture, but also a fun sweet and slightly savory topping. I also like the ones with fillings, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Making Sausage (Patties or Ground)

Sometimes I enjoy making breakfast for dinner, and this was one of those meals. It also meant that I could serve the leftovers for a brunch later in the week.

So today I am sharing how to make yourself some sausage without anything fancy involved, like a meat grinder. Sometimes at the store I can’t find ground sausage. Buying the ground pork from my store is also cheaper besides being more easily available. And even more of a bonus, my family enjoyed this sausage more than the store kind. It isn’t that involved, and all I had to do was buy some sage which keeps, so I can continue to make more ground sausage anytime I buy more ground pork.

Apricot Jam Chicken and Broccoli

This is easy, fast, and requires no work ahead of time. It is almost like a stir fry meal without needing to marinate the chicken.

Bravetart’s Chocolate Cake

The kids spent over an hour playing happily and fairly quietly together. I didn’t need to intervene at all. I decided to reward everyone by using that time to make a cake. This was back before Christmas, so we actually waited for the cake to cool while we took a walk to look at neighborhood Christmas lights. Then we came back and I frosted it.
