1-2-3 Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Bonbons for Kids

Happy almost Halloween! I thought this would be a good recipe to share today for a few reasons. One, it is super kid-friendly. Kids can help you make them (although I did not have the Fudgelet help this time). Kids will also like eating them. Also, this is a super easy recipe to make. Perfect for a Halloween party to share with others. You could make these more Halloween-like by turning them into some cute creatures or using Halloween colors to dip them in. I’m sure you can be more creative! I will mention that I started getting a bit lazy and messy so some of them look more marbled than they need to…but I also feel like it doesn’t matter.

The other issue was them getting too soft before I dipped them, so next time…keep some in the freezer while dipping the rest to keep them a bit nicer-looking.

Directions for 1-2-3 Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Bonbons for Kids

Adapted from The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook

  • 1.5 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1.5 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup crispy rice cereal
  • 6 ounces candy melts, for coating
  • 6 ounces milk/dark chocolate, for coating

With a mixer, stir together the sugar, peanut butter, vanilla, and salt on low speed until it comes together. Then, mix on a high speed until dough-like with no crumbs.

If it is too sticky, add some confectioner’s sugar. Stir in the rice cereal.

Scoop out 1-inch balls and place them on a lined (parchment or silicone) baking sheet. Freeze until hard.

When ready, melt the candy melts and chocolate in separate bowls. Dip the frozen balls with one side in the candy melts and one side in the chocolate. (Dip in batches to keep the balls frozen while you dip them). Place them back onto the lined baking sheet and refrigerate until set. Serve from the refrigerator. (The recipe says not to refrigerate for more than 10 minutes, but mine were way too soft at room temperature. Maybe it would be okay if your house was colder?)
