I’ve talked before about flying with the Fudgelet. It’s never easy. It’s never fun. Do you ever enjoy flying? I didn’t even when I was single. There is always something to worry about, I feel gross before/during/after, there are so many lines and so much waiting around, and it takes so long (mostly because our trips tend to be cross-country). But, as the Fudgelet has gotten older, some of it has gotten easier. Thankfully, he is able to entertain himself a little and I imagine this will only continue. So, I can give him a toy, maybe provide a little demonstration/instruction, and then let him play.
I am writing this from my in-laws’ house. Being away from home generally means I have more time to do random internet browsing because I can’t/don’t need to do some of my regular activities I save for Fudgelet’s sleeping hours. Unfortunately, we have been here for four days now, and today was the first day he decided to nap. Ugh. I am hoping the napping trend will continue and that his jet lag gets better, but I should also add that it is 9:40 pm and he is still awake (he is usually asleep by now at home). The one saving grace on his sleep has been that he is still mostly sleeping through the night here, and since I am right next to him (his mattress is on the floor), I generally just have to hand him a stuffed animal or tuck him back in if he gets distressed, then return to bed. I’ve been waking and struggling to fall asleep myself this visit, so it’s not just him.
This was a recipe I made up as I went. I had some leftovers from our Halloween party that needed to get used (yes, I am still blogging about posts from the end of October/early November…sorry?). We had olives and red bell pepper for the black bean/hummus dip I made. I haven’t actually shared that recipe on here, either, although I have now mentioned it a couple times. I also had some leftover pasta but not enough extra sauce, so this was a way to throw it all together.
This year, I managed to find a couple Chinese New Year books from the library in the toddler section. The Fudgelet loves reading them, and he also loves learning new Cantonese phrases/songs/etc. I figured doing some crafts related to the holiday would be perfect since he is also missing Christmas activities and decorations. Initially I was going to check out a craft store and grab some pre-packaged crafts kits. Then, I looked online and found a few sites with easy crafts. After we made them, we went to the craft store to get other goodies …. and apparently they didn’t have ANY Chinese decorations anyway! Unheard of! So, it’s just as well we did it ourselves.
That’s right. I’m here to share yet another brownie recipe with you. In case you couldn’t tell, I happen to love bars and brownies. More than cookies. Not that I don’t love cookies. And really, you shouldn’t make me pick between them, but I would pick brownies and bars. Now, if I had to decide between peanut butter and chocolate, I couldn’t do it. Just couldn’t.
Let’s say you’re in the mood for a more low-key recipe. And that cold weather makes you crave ice cream like a certain husband of mine. Well, I have a … “recipe” for you. Really, it’s just my normal vanilla ice cream with some add-ins. But we need something simple sometimes.
The Fudgelet and I go to storytime at the library weekly. It’s really well-run with the perfect mix of stories, songs, nursery rhymes, and talking. Each week, we go and return books, then if there is time look at books first, but usually we do storytime then books after. He likes to “help me” check out and then we go home for lunch. At lunch we usually read through all of the books while he eats, and then we read them throughout the week. Some books are clear winners right off the bat. It’s also fun to see what new interests he picks up from the books. Recently, dinosaurs have been a hit. He really wanted an Amelia Bedelia book, but I never liked them much. They also seemed a bit long and old for him, but he had grabbed one where Amelia bakes cakes.
