The big day happened this week. The Fudgelet went from baby to toddler! After making very small changes over the last month or two, he definitely made some big changes this past month. It’s like he knew the big day was coming, and he wanted to be prepared.
The biggest changes? He is walking (a bit)! He started taking a few steps at a time without help. You can tell he is proud when he gets to his desired location. When he does it without prompting, you can watch his face as he is clearly thinking “okay, remove your hand from the support in 1-2-….”
The other big change is his vocabulary. He has been making sounds for a long while, but he recently added in some new ones. And, I think one of them even counts as a word. Maybe this is very food blogger-y of me, but I am fairly certain it is “yum.” He will babble his other sounds constantly, but he saves “mum mum mum” for when he wants food or sees food. It’s been consistent, and makes sense since we say “yum yum yum” to him as we feed him. So, yeah, the boy likes to eat, haha!
He also made his second trip to Maryland and back. Going was far worse than the return trip. He didn’t really nap going there, but I made sure I got him to nap on the return, and I think that helped a bunch. He was less cranky and loved seeing all of the new people. I’d go so far as to say he was the most well-behaved baby on the flight. Only two small fussy periods (takeoff and before his nap), and the rest of the time was eager to wave, laugh, dance, and stand.
His favorite activities this month? Still dancing and reading, but also climbing, trying to get all of our electronics, and showing off his one tooth.
I’ve also noticed some changes in his personality, although it has been a gradual change since he was a newborn. Basically, he just seems happier. He loves to laugh, talk, dance, and be around others. He gets fussy at times, but in general just seems full of joy. I have been extra tired recently (a long trip in a different time zone with a baby will do that), but I still feel okay overall because he is so happy. Who knew clapping and banging could be so much fun? The Fudgelet knew. He also snuggles with me now. Before, he would let me cuddle him, but didn’t really seem to care one way or another. Now, if I rub his cheek with mine, he will lean in, press his cheek closer, and then turn and give me a kiss. Adorable!
Our other big event this past month was taking him to a wedding! K was in the bridal party, but the Fudgelet and I skipped the ceremony (I was worried about him sitting still for that long, and I was hoping to get an afternoon nap from him to help with the later evening….didn’t quite work out, though.). We arrived at the reception early and hung out waiting for the other guests. He has been practicing his dance moves, but alas, dinner ran a bit long, and we had to leave before any of the toasts/cake/dancing. He started getting a bit cranky (he wanted a strawberry, but threw it when he got it, and then started crying about it…yep), and wouldn’t nurse with all of the excitement. So, we took him home and he crashed in the car.
In case you’re wondering about his celebrations, we did a family party back in Maryland where he got to re-meet everyone, and then a mini party with me and K. We’re planning a friend party which is happening soon. There will be pictures, I am sure, and we have pictures from our mini-party, but I will wait and combine them in one party post. That way you can see the yummies we had. Or the mum mums, in the Fudgelet’s words. 🙂
