Brown Butter Garlic Bread

I am often impatient for silly things. Like the time it takes for butter to soften so that I can eat garlic bread. Then one day I decided to take a shortcut, although it sounded fancy. It led me to a different kind of garlic bread that isn’t the classic but still delicious. So delicious, that I was asked to make it again, and told to blog about it. Well, here you go. Brown butter garlic bread.

You can make it without much thinking going on. I was a bit tired and hungry this particular evening. We had down a corn maze with our friends, twice. Both of us had worked out that day, but the 7 miles in the corn maze pushed us over. And it was cold!

They had a pumpkin patch (this was just before Halloween) but the pumpkins were crazy expensive. Who pays $10 for a medium-sized pumpkin?

The recipe isn’t super specific because it depends on how many people you have/etc. You can play with the amounts of bread/garlic/butter. We found 1 Tablespoon per slice of bread worked out well for us. You get some richness, but not too much. I also never thought to slice baguettes this way before. I feel dumb for not thinking about it sooner, but it also made excellent sub rolls for a dish coming soon!

You will need about 1 Tablespoon per serving.

To brown the butter in a pan, let it melt over medium heat, then watch for it to foam and begin to brown. As it smells nutty and you see lots of brown flakes, add in the garlic. Let the garlic cook for about 30 seconds, then remove from the heat.

Place the sliced bread in foil on a pan. Pour the butter/garlic mixture onto the insides of the bread.

I tried leaving the slices facedown in the pan to soak up the butter, but it didn't work as well.

Use a pastry brush if necessary to get everything coated.

Then, roll up in the foil and bake for about 10-15 minutes (until the bread is lightly browned and toasted).
